The Beach

Turns out I still don't like the beach very much. But the kids have had a change of heart.

We didn't bring G's life jacket down from H's parents, so we had to make do with arm floaties. I didn't even know they still made those things.

It's the sand that gets me. And the sticky in the air. Which is kind of weird because I've lived my whole life in humid places and that kind of sticky air doesn't bother me. But there's something different about beach sticky air. Anyway, last time we went to the beach was in Thailand and I loved it because it was warm and there was sun and it looked like a paradise desktop background, but the kids hated it because they got sand and salt in their eyes. But this time it was just Galveston and I wasn't desperate for the warmth and the sun like I usually am and they thought it was the best thing ever. Figures.

They happily dug in the sand with their dollar store buckets for a long time, and then when they wanted to go in the water, they ran for their grandma and great-aunt (which makes it like there are TWO grandmas) to take them into the water. All I had to do was sit in a chair under the umbrella. They happily jumped waves for like an hour. Actually I was so zoned out that I spent probably a full half hour trying to figure out what was wrong with my weird cramping lower abdomen until I finally remembered that there was a baby in there kicking me. Finally when everyone was about done and the beach was closing, we rinsed off and got ice cream on our way home.

The girls thought the ice cream shop looked like something from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so they needed a picture.

It was a fun outing! There was still sand. But the kids really had a great time. I don't know what made it so different this time. Maybe the fact that they weren't having to decide between a resort pool with a waterslide and the beach. But it was nice to see them having so much fun! And it was fun to spend some time with my aunt and cousin and sister, who all came with us. So it was a good day!
